I did an initial measurement with the pinion in the housing and bolted the pinion support on with no shims. It measured .830 depth. (Depth measured to center of ring gear. The depth center measuring tool comes out at + or - .001 from center.)

Once the pinion is out you can knock the bearing out in that direction to replace it. No need to remove the oil trough and drive screws.
